Urinalysis - UrobilinogenIntroductionThe amount of urobilinogen in the urine depends on the diurnal rhythm of urobilinogen metabolism, food intake, and hepatic bile output. If the amount of urobilinogen produced is greater, it passes to the blood and is excreted by the kidneys. In liver diseases, urinary excretion of urobilinogen is also increased due to the liver function impairment. Urobilinogen is not found in the urine in case of decreased bile production by hepatocytes, obstruction of bile output to the intestine, and failure of the intestinal bilirubin reduction. |
